The vagina is a muscle - one that naturally weakens over time due to age and vaginal birth. When this occurs, sex may become less fulfilling. Our New York vaginoplasty with Dr. Reinblatt is designed to tighten these muscles and the surrounding tissues, restoring sexual pleasure and enhanced vaginal function.

What is Vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is performed to tighten a woman’s vagina after pregnancy or the aging process. Excess lining is removed from the area, which contracts the vaginal tissues and muscles for a more youthful look and feel. In general, the more children a woman bears, the more stretched out her intimate region will become. In addition to cosmetic concerns, a woman may struggle with a loss of sexual pleasure due to decreased vaginal friction. While kegel exercises may lead to slight improvements, they are rarely enough to restore satisfaction and quality of life. Only vaginoplasty can produce the dramatic changes most clients seek.

FAQ

Why do I suddenly have a "loose vagina?"

Many women come to Dr. Reinblatt's New York City office with this very same question, so you are in good company. Vaginal laxity or looseness is more common than you may think, and it can develop for a number of reasons. They include:

    • The natural weakening of your vaginal muscles over time
    • Trauma or injury during vaginal birth
    • Extreme weight fluctuations
    • Multiple vaginal births

Although childbirth is a leading cause of looseness, it's important to note that not all vaginal births result in laxity. Young mothers with uncomplicated births often recover their vaginal tightness completely. Conversely, women who have multiple children later in life, possibly with injuries during labor, are at a greater risk of developing chronic problems with vaginal looseness.

    Vaginoplasty: Your procedure

Vaginal tightening involves making permanent changes to your vagina. It is a complex surgery that can take up to two hours. It is traditionally performed with a scalpel, although some New York women will be candidates for vaginoplasty with state-of-the-art laser technology.

During the procedure, you will be unconscious via sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Reinblatt will create a diamond-shaped incision in the perineum that extends into the inner floor of the vaginal lining. Through that opening, she will remove excess tissue and pull together the muscles to tighten and tone the area. She will also tighten your vaginal opening to approximately two inches.

The recovery: What to expect after surgery

Follow-up visits. You will need to return to Dr. Reinblatt's office the first or second week after your NYC vaginoplasty so that she can monitor your healing process. During this visit, she will talk to you about lifting some of your activity restrictions and practicing Kegel exercises to strengthen your recovering muscles.

Swelling, bruising and pain. It is very common to experience tenderness, swelling, bruising and moderate discomfort after vaginoplasty. Dr. Reinblatt will prescribe medication to help you manage the pain, and you can minimize swelling and bruising by applying cold compresses to the area.

Adopt a fiber-rich diet. Straining during bowel movements can compromise your healing after vaginal rejuvenation surgery. As such, it's important to eat fruits, vegetables and other fiber-rich foods as you heal.

No sex or tampons. You will not be able to have sex or use tampons for six weeks.

No strenuous activities. For at least six weeks, you will need to avoid strenuous activities and exercise. During your follow-up appointments, Dr. Reinblatt will let you know when it's safe to make a full return to your pre-surgery activities.

Time off work. Most of our NYC vaginoplasty patients will be cleared to return to a sedentary job within about one week. Active jobs may require additional time off.
