Your Arm Lift Procedure

When you have an arm lift with Stamford plastic surgeon, Dr. Reinblatt, you will have two main options: the mini and the extended. Both procedures are done under general anesthesia and should take one to two hours.

The mini arm lift is perfect for patients who don't have much excess skin to address. The incision is very small and can be completely hidden within the armpit. Through that opening, Dr. Reinblatt can remove unwanted fat and trim away excess skin.

For men and women with more substantial upper arm heaviness, an extended arm lift may be necessary. To perform this procedure, Dr. Reinblatt will create an incision that begins in the armpit and extends down along the side of your chest. This lengthy opening allows her to remove the maximum amount of skin and fat from the area.

The recovery: What to expect as you heal

Inflammation and soreness. Some pain is inevitable after any surgery. Dr. Reinblatt will prescribe medication to help you manage the discomfort.

Swelling and bruising. Swelling and bruising is also to be expected. You can minimize these effects by sitting and sleeping with your arms elevated.

No showering. Sponge baths will be necessary for a few days after surgery. Once your surgical drains are removed, you can resume showering normally.

Time off work. Plan your procedure during a time when you can take at least two to three weeks off work to heal.

Activity restrictions. Your activity will be extremely limited as you recover. For the first week, you will need to abstain from all physical activity, with the exception of light walking around the house to promote blood flow. If your recovery is progressing normally, you can return to moderate physical activity within one month and running, heavy lifting and other strenuous activities within six weeks.
