If you have excess back fat and unsightly rolls, bras may be uncomfortable and your clothes may not fit well. A back lift with double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Reinblatt can discreetly remove this excess volume and create a smooth and contoured back that you can't wait to show off.
The most common cause of back fat is atrophy of the back muscles. When this occurs, the muscles in your back lose their strength and muscle tone. Tissue accumulates in the area and creates the appearance of a muffin top, bra bulges and flab.
Traditionally, liposuction was performed to remove back fat. This procedure involves using a cannula and vacuum suction to break up and remove unwanted volume. However, this approach is only effective if the back rolls are composed mainly of fat and the skin features good elasticity.
For many patients, the problem is equal parts excess skin and unwanted fat. As such, if just liposuction is performed, the fat will be removed but they will be left with loose, sagging skin. For these patients, surgically excising the fat rolls is the ideal approach.
To begin your back lift procedure, Dr. Reinblatt will administer general anesthesia to ensure that you are unconscious and comfortable throughout surgery. She will then make an incision in the back, strategically placing the cut to ensure that it is well-hidden within the bra line. Through that opening, Dr. Reinblatt will trim away excess skin, remove unwanted fat and smooth unsightly back "rolls."
A 7- to 10-day recovery period. A back lift is associated with a substantial recovery period. Most of our patients are able to return to work within seven to ten days. In the meantime, you will need to rest and avoid exercise and vigorous activities.
Swelling and bruising. Swelling, bruising and pain are inevitable after any surgery, and a back lift is no different. You can apply ice to ease the swelling and take your prescribed medication to help manage the pain.
Do not wear a bra. During the initial recovery period, you will not be permitted to wear a bra to ensure proper healing.
Activity restrictions. It will be a full six weeks before you can return to your pre-surgery activity levels. During your post-operative appointments, Dr. Reinblatt will review these restrictions with you so you know when you're able to resume your normal routine.
If you struggle with stubborn back fat and rolls that are unresponsive to diet and exercise, Dr. Reinblatt can help. Contact her office today to schedule an appointment and begin planning for your transformation.
