Candidates: How to know if a thigh lift is right for you

In general, ideal thigh lift candidates are:

  • In good physical and emotional health
  • At a stable weight and/or close to their ideal weight
  • Committed to preserving their surgical outcomes with a healthy lifestyle

Your thigh lift procedure: What to expect

When it comes to your thigh lift with Westchester plastic surgeon Dr. Reinblatt, you have two options: the mini and the extended.

The mini thigh lift is best for patients with sagging skin and excess volume on the upper area of the thigh only. To perform this procedure, Dr. Reinblatt will create a short incision in the groin area. Through that opening, she will tighten your skin and remove excess fat. This approach is associated with a rapid recovery period and minimal scarring.

You will achieve a more dramatic transformation with an extended thigh lift. To perform this procedure, Dr. Reinblatt will make a vertical incision extending from the groin down to the knee. This approach is ideal for patients with a large amount of sagging skin and a desire to reduce the circumference of their legs. Through that lengthy opening, Dr. Reinblatt can address loose skin and excess fat throughout the entire thigh.

The Recovery

Get plenty of rest. As you recover from your thigh lift, get plenty of rest. For the first 24 hours, it will be difficult to perform routine tasks, so you will need to have a friend or family member who can prepare your meals and help you move around the house.

Start walking as soon as possible. Although you want to avoid strenuous activities for six to eight weeks, it's important to begin walking slowly around the house as soon as you can. This will promote blood flow and ensure optimal healing.

Apply ice to your thighs. Some bruising and swelling is to be expected after a mini or extended thigh lift. You can minimize these effects by applying ice to the treatment area.

When will your new thighs emerge?

The results of your thigh lift won't be apparent right away. Immediately after your surgery, your legs will be swollen, bruised and wrapped in a compression garment.

It can take one year for your full thigh lift results to emerge. However, you will notice slimmer and more toned thighs much earlier than that, once your swelling and bruising subsides.
