NeoSkin by Aerolase is a nonablative laser treatment performed with the 1064 nm Nd:YAG Neo Elite platform. In appropriate candidates, it may be used to address selected redness and visible vessels, benign pigmentation, mild to moderate inflammatory acne, and wrinkles. The treatment does not use needles or surgically remove the skin. Comfort, recovery, the number of sessions, and results vary by patient and concern.
Dr. Maura Reinblatt is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Her White Plains, New York practice evaluates the treatment goal, skin type, medical history, medications, recent sun exposure, and prior procedures before recommending a laser plan.
Because different technologies address different concerns, Dr. Reinblatt can also discuss whether NeoSkin, Fraxel laser treatment, microneedling, injectables, or another non-surgical treatment is the more appropriate option. Each plan is tailored to the diagnosis, desired degree of improvement, and preferred recovery period.
NeoSkin is a treatment approach that uses the Aerolase Neo Elite 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. The device delivers energy in 650-microsecond pulses. Depending on the settings and target, that energy may interact with melanin, hemoglobin, and water in the skin. This allows the platform to be used for selected pigment, vascular, acne, hair, and wrinkle indications.
The Neo platform is FDA-cleared for multiple medical and aesthetic indications and for Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI, including tanned skin. FDA clearance does not guarantee a particular result or remove the need for individualized settings and risk assessment.
Depending on the diagnosis and treatment plan, potential benefits may include:
NeoSkin is not a diagnosis, and not every type of redness, pigmentation, acne, or texture change responds in the same way. New, changing, or suspicious pigmented lesions should be medically evaluated before cosmetic laser treatment.
A potential candidate is generally an adult seeking non-surgical improvement in a concern the Neo platform is designed to treat and who has realistic expectations about a gradual, variable response. Candidacy depends on the diagnosis, treatment area, skin type, health history, medications, recent tanning or sun exposure, and prior procedures.
This is not a complete contraindication list. Patients should provide a full medical history and medication list before treatment.
The skin is cleansed, and protective eyewear is used. The laser handpiece is moved over or positioned near the treatment area while the selected settings deliver short pulses of energy. Patients commonly describe warmth, tingling, or a brief snapping sensation. Anesthesia is often not required, but individual comfort varies.
The settings, number of passes, treatment interval, and total number of sessions depend on the concern being treated and the patient's response. Some concerns are treated in a series, while others may require fewer sessions or periodic maintenance.
Many patients resume routine activities on the day of treatment, but minimal downtime does not mean zero risk. Short-term redness, warmth, tenderness, mild swelling, or temporary darkening of treated pigment may occur. Less common laser complications can include blistering, burns, prolonged redness, infection, scarring, or temporary or lasting changes in pigmentation.
The timeline depends on the concern being treated. Changes in redness, acne, or pigment may appear on a different schedule than changes in wrinkles or overall skin quality. When skin remodeling is part of the goal, improvement may develop gradually over several weeks. Results are not guaranteed and vary among patients.
NeoSkin: Uses a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser without intentionally removing the full skin surface. It may be considered for selected vascular, pigment, acne, and wrinkle concerns and often has a relatively light recovery period.
Fraxel: Fraxel is a fractional laser treatment that creates microscopic treatment zones. Depending on the device and settings, it may be selected for more focused texture, scar, pigment, or resurfacing goals and may involve numbing, redness, swelling, or peeling.
Microneedling: Uses fine needles to create controlled channels in the skin and does not use laser energy. It may be selected for certain texture or scar concerns. NeoSkin and microneedling may be sequenced in selected treatment plans, but timing and suitability should be determined clinically.
There is no universal number. Some concerns may be treated in fewer sessions, while acne, redness, pigment, or rejuvenation plans may involve a series followed by maintenance. The recommendation is based on the diagnosis, area, goals, and response.
The Aerolase Neo platform is FDA-cleared for Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI, including tanned skin. That does not make treatment risk-free. Darker skin can be more susceptible to post-inflammatory pigment changes, so diagnosis, settings, sun history, and aftercare must be individualized.
Many patients tolerate treatment without injectable or topical anesthesia, but the experience is not identical for everyone. Warmth, tingling, or a brief snapping sensation may be felt, and sensitivity varies by area and setting.
Many patients can resume routine activities the same day. Temporary redness, warmth, tenderness, swelling, or darkening of treated pigment may still occur. Follow the aftercare instructions provided for the specific treatment.
NeoSkin may be staged with microneedling, chemical peels, BOTOX, fillers, or other treatments. Same-day combinations are not always appropriate, so sequence and timing are individualized.
Published New York-area prices commonly range from about $250 to $500 for one facial Aerolase session. Larger areas, combined services, and packages may cost more. This is general market context, not a practice quote; current fees are confirmed by the office.
